Did you know, it is possible for AI to mimic a voice and make it sing?

Here's my attempt on an AI Cover by Plankton. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/n17KHmLsmfo?si=vDGvYOiH6K_TEsHb Reflecting on this small project, the intriguing subject of AI music brings thoughts on both opportunities and threats.

Opportunities:

AI music covers allow artists to experiment with new genres and styles, creating unique musical experiences. This isn’t limited to creative exploration. AI music democratizes music production, enabling anyone to create high-quality music without formal training. Individuals who have lost their ability to sing or play an instrument can be empowered by these new tools. Additionally, AI can preserve iconic voices and even yours. By using data from your voice, AI can recite passages or sing particular songs. It can greatly assist with complex tasks, allowing you to focus on excellence.

Threats:

AI-generated covers raise copyright concerns, leading to potential legal and ethical disputes over intellectual property. This is especially problematic when voices, particularly those of iconic artists, are collected without consent. Reviving the voices of deceased artists or infamous individuals brings ethical concerns. AI might reduce the demand for human artists, threatening jobs in the music industry. While AI replacing musicians may seem unrealistic with today’s technology, the future could see Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) creating new music and genres that resonate deeply with people, transforming the industry for better or worse. Over-reliance on AI could stifle human creativity, making the creative process too automated.

Reflecting Further:

There is a need for legal protection not just for artists but for everyone’s voices, including yours. For us UX Designers, this concern extends to ensuring ethical and responsible use of AI in all aspects of user experience. We must prioritize transparency and user consent, ensuring individuals are aware of how their voices and personal data are utilized. It is crucial to advocate for policies that protect against misuse and design systems that respect user rights and privacy. By doing so, we can help shape a future where technology serves humanity responsibly and respectfully, preserving the dignity of all voices involved.
